Dedication is what you need!
By Nick Mitchell • Jan 26th, 2008 • Category: passion, sports specificI am currently bogged down in a job that entails me writing about the main energy systems used in top flight rugby matches. Not surprising after a little while ennui can set in when detailing the world of fun of phospocreatine stores, anaerobic glycolosis and lactate thresholds. So in an effort to escape the drudgery, and please bear in mind that it is only 5am on a freezing Saturday morning in January (a time when all right minded men should be curled up sleeping, or at least lazing in bed surrounded by the weekend papers and crunchy nut cornflakes!), I have switched the TV on and have the latest World Cup Skiing event on in the background.
The fierce dedication and passion that these men and women bring to their sport is a lesson for us all. What strikes me most about them is that they must have no fear. This is something that I have found in many world class sports people, but surely the downhill skiiers must have even less fear (or more control over it?) than almost any other sport. If we could all harness that mindset, attack our lives with the same zeal that they attack corners, jumps, and slalom turns then I wonder how much more successful and fulfilled our existences would be…
Just my thought for the day…
