CLA for Fat Loss
By Nick Mitchell • Apr 28th, 2008 • Category: fat loss, nutritional supplements, omega 3sI am often asked about the more esoteric fats on the market, such as CLA.
CLA is a bio active lipid that has some nice fat burning and anti-catabolic properties. It is as an anti catabolic agent for my personal training clients that I have used it with most success, helping them to reduce specific areas of cortisol induced belly fat. Although now I prefer to use products such as Holy Basil and phosphatidylserine as I find they do a better job.
For my personal training clients I don’t rate CLA anywhere near as highly as I do Omega 3s for pure fat burning, but for overall health and if you and the aforementioned anti catabolic properties you could add 4-6gms per day to our diet.
I have also read that the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study demostrating that CLA mobilised body fat for energy whilst you slept. The kicker being that the fat burned wasn’t recently ingested dietary fat, but actual visceral and subcutaneous body fat. Its only a small thing in truth, but when you are dealing with the accumulation of % points to get into top condition it is definitely worth thinking about.
