My personal training clients often ask me about cellulite, so I thought now would be an opportune moment for a brief reminder of what it is and if we can really do anything to fight it!
Cellulite is an effect caused by weakened connective tissue and cells filled with fat. Women suffer from this more than men as the connective tissue around our fat is thicker, as is our skin. It IS an age thing in that most people put fat on as they age. Typically if you are carry cellulite in one place it’ll be because a hormonal imbalance is causing localised fat deposits (eg on a woman’s buttocks / upper thighs).
This can be spot reduced (oh yes, spot reducing does work on cellulite..forget what your hapless local personal trainer tells you!) but it requires careful modulation of hormones via diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and herbal/ botanical supplementation. What works for a disproportionately fat belly will not work for cellulite on the derriere!
Our clients opt for something called a Biosignature analysis (a process developed by conditioning guru Charles Poliquin and something that you can read far more about this on the preceding link) and the results of that provide us with the data that we can then interpret and use to modulate their hormones in order to disrupt hormonally derived local deposits.
