Agreed totally! A lack of extra weight would be one the main cons of bodyweight training. They all have their place. Quite often I'll work out and and just finish off a muscle with some bodyweight exercises (eg, chest I'll pump out some push ups at the end, sometimes on a medicine ball for added difficulty). Awesome blog by the way! I've bookmarked it and will be back to read some more :)

yes, but always be aware that there is very limited ability to progressively increase resistance with bodyweight only movements and this can be very limiting. However, movements where you move your body against gravity are fabulous when they lend themselves to varying loads - such as chins and dips, exercises that should be a staple in most programmes regardless of whether the goal is fat loss, muscular hypertrophy, or just general "fitness" and conditioning.

using your bodyweight for resistance is highly effective since the amount of neuromuscular activity is increased which can lead to better gains in overall body strength...

If you have soreness from supinated work of this nature then a good solution is to work on the pronator teres in the forearm. I find that grip training (especially fat bar work) and ART (active release techniques) can be especially useful in these circumstances.

"work the biceps with exercises such as chin ups" Agree, especially when it's close grip. It burns the muscle hard, then I move on to some isolation exercise for some after-burn.
Mark Martinez
your hypergain test lab
