I agree 100%, Christine. These poor children are screwed up for life by the often willful ignorance of their parents.

Wow. The problem with Dudes01's tantrum is that feeding your kids McDonald's is a "treat" in the first place. If you put crap like that in the "treat" catagory, what is a kid gonna do? See the crap as a treat. You teach them to enjoy and even crave the very things they should be RUNNING from. Eating shouldn't be a treat in my opinion. What a terrible thing to teach your kids. Personally, when I see people walking around (or scooting around whenever possible) with their obese children in tow, I get so worked up I often have to walk away from them quickly to avoid saying something within earshot. Its child abuse. People like that shouldn't be allowed to raise children. I think what Pauline is speaking to is not necessarily people who have an OK diet, but to the people who eat the stuff as part of a lifestyle.

Do please calm down dear.

Everything in life is about balance, but nowhere does balance equate to eating McDonalds. I would NEVER feed my child drug raddled junk just to shut him up. I would just as soon let him smoke a doob to calm him down.

Sorry, I forgot to say that my 4 year old twin boys are not fat, neither is my 14 year old 6 foot beautiful daughter. My 24 year old gorgeous daughter is also a beautiful specimen. It is really hard work bringing up 4 children into this rough world of ours and when you both work 12 hours a day, to give your children a better lifestyle than the one we had, you soon understand about destressing. I work out (although not as often as I would like to or have time to), I have been known to benchpress a twin or two or do push ups with one of the kids on my back. I watch what I and my family eat, but I do not obsess about it as long as I can keep their fat, sugar and salt intake to an absolute minimum, I don't stress.

I think that there is more to life than thinking about yourself all the time. I actually think that vanity can be a good trait as you say, but it can lead to an inner ugliness if you obsess about it. I think you were probably getting at those parents who constantly spoil their children with snacks etc, but I don't and I suppose alot of the parents that would read this blog would not either.

Quite frankly I think it is quite rude to suggest that just because parents treat their children once in a while is a bad thing. One of the biggest killers today is STRESS, not being too fat, too ugly, wrong colour, wrong shape or whatever deficiency us parents with hungry children have. When i first saw you i thought you had an inner beauty as well as an incredible outer beauty, now I'm not so sure? The Outer Beauty is practice practice practice to perfection, however, inner beauty is not as easily gained, you need to learn compassion in the competitiveness of yours. Oh and don't bother attacking me because I am one of the ugly parents who feed their children McDonalds once in a while to shut them up as you say. Try it, you'll see lots of stressed out parents there getting time out and keeping their stress levels at a manageable level. Wake up and smell the roses sweetheart.
