Personal Training Results

View Comments

Periodically I am moved to write a few words about what makes a good personal training client. Yes, thats tight, not what makes a good personal trainer, but what a client him/herself actually needs to meet with the success that they pay their hard earned money to achieve.

One of the nice things I genuinely adore about this job is the real and lasting change that some of my clients make to themselves and their lives. I was reminded of that last night when I was visited late at night at my home office by two such clients, Dale Joyce and Paul Green. Here are two guys who have been periodically going to the gym and trying to beef up for years with little or no success. They came to see me a couple of months ago and if I am honest when push came to shove I would have said that they had never lifted a weight heavier than a pint glass in their lives. If you are reading this, sorry guys.

Well what a difference 2 months can make. We conducted BioSignature assessments and ascertained that an improved androgen profile would help them both to lay down some lean tissue. I prepared for them a detailed diet aimed exclusively at packing on some beef, and wrote a 6 workout programme that they appear to have followed to the letter for the entire 2 month period that they would be training by themselves. When they came for a follow up consultation I was blown away by their progress- with their tops off both guys look buff and have that physical roundness to their musculature that only comes from paying your dues in the weight room.

Now I will admit that I see great results from 90% of my personal training clients (the 10% that don’t get great results get only average results which never ever satisfies me – but clients that cheat on their diets, skip sessions more often than not, and insist on getting drunk at least twice a week only have themselves to blame), but its always both gratifying and heartening when my consultation clients (those whom for various reasons I do not personally train, but instead coach and advise) put the effort in and with their own hard work and dedication literally transform themselves before my very eyes.

When I can assist with changes like that, changes that have positive ramifications for all areas of a person’s life, then I think that I have the best job in the world!
